Dear Parents and Guardians:
Happy New Year!
The second semester of the 2017 – 2018 school year is already in full swing. I hope you had a
great winter holiday and were able to spend some quality time with family and friends.
During the second semester, we will have many exciting activities. We will engage in our Western Association of
Schools and Colleges accreditation in March. We will also have our annual complex Character Counts Fair in
February, and the Mililani Waena Songfest in May.
I would like to send a big congratulations and job well done to our 5 students who represented Mililani Waena with
pride in the American Savings Bank Keiki Co. competition. Students had to come up with an idea of a new product
and then develop a marketing plan. Mililani Waena’s students, Ainsley Coullahan and Camryn Kunihisa won 1st
place in the elementary division with their, “Map App.” Even Murphy, Ethan Anderton, and Leland Nakayama won
the People’s choice award for their product called the, EZ Shower.” These 5 students won a total of $30,000 for the
school. Thank you, students, for your efforts and help making Mililani Waena a great school.
A safety concern has been brought up regarding our drop-off/pick-up area each morning and afternoon. Parents,
please slow down and drive with caution; many children are moving to and from cars in the parking lot. We also ask
you kindly follow the directions of our crossing guards. They are out there trying to ensure the safety of all our
students, so please respect their commands and directs. Again, our students’ safety comes over our parents’
Thank you very much for being a part of our team that is working together to ensure the best possible education
for your child.
