MWES Menehune has been around for over 40 years and has seen children play with all
kinds of games and toys. Fast forward to today, it’s no secret that we live in a digital age!
He sees kids on tablets, smartphones, or kids glued to the television, laptop, or gaming

Hmmmmm, what would happen if we pressed pause on technology? What are we to do?
Did you know the very first toy ever was a “Stick and Stone”? Your parents,
grandparents, great-grandparents, and people in history had to find ways to entertain
themselves. Manufactured toys were hard to come by. They stepped outside and
played all day until the sun would set.

Let’s unplug and play, imagine, create, explore and spend time with family and friends to
find out what it was like to play way back when. Recreate a “Technology Free” toy or
game that that you can teach or demonstrate to others how to play. What adventure
awaits when we unplug and explore games and toys from the past?

• Research or interview someone about what kind of games or toys they played with
growing up.
• Use recycled materials or things found in nature to recreate or improve the toy or game.
• No manufactured games or toys allowed.
• You will record your demonstration of your game or toy that you created, and explain how
it works.
• You may work alone or with a family member.
