Science Fridays! And, 2nd Place!

On March 2nd, Fifth graders Lauren Takemoto and Portia Chibana submitted their STEM project on easy farming for schools to the Leilehua Complex Science Fair. We are pleased to announce the judges awarded them 2nd Place! Lauren and Portia grew green onions and lettuce using an aquaponics methodology that included tilapia, comets, and UV lighting. We are very proud of them! A special thank you to advisors Sherri Koide and Nolan Uyeda for their expert guidance.

Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss!

Today students across campus celebrated Dr. Seuss' birthday! Festivities included green eggs and ham, obstacle courses to show the places they can go, and Dr. Seuss read alouds.

We Welcome WASC

During the week of March 5th, a visiting team representing the Western Association of Schools and Colleges will conduct an accreditation visit at our school. The visiting team, comprised of various educators, will evaluate our school programs and determine whether we are a trustworthy institution of learning. They will analyze our self-study report, conduct classroom walkthroughs, and interview staff, students and parents. All public schools in Hawaii participate in the WASC accreditation process.

National History Day

On Saturday, February 24, nine of our students participated in the Central District National History Fair. Our students engaged in the historical research project with topics that addressed the theme of conflict and compromise. Projects included the effects of desegregation with the Little Rock 9, the New England missionary's impact on Hawaiian cultural practices, and Elizabeth Cady Stanton's pursuit of equal rights for women at the Seneca Falls Convention.

Fitness Fun Day Coming Soon!

Get ready for our annual Fitness Fun Day on Friday, March 16th! Students will rotate through various fitness stations to test their motor coordination, team work, and determination. Fitness Fun encourages students to stay active and engaged. A big mahalo to all our parents who signed up to run our stations.

Astronaut Lands at Waena!

NASA sent Astronaut Dan Fischer to Mililani Waena on January 31st to share stories of space travels and encourage kids to delve into the sciences. His visit was part of an award received from American Savings Bank Keiki Co. Contest.

Emergency Drills

Mililani Waena practices a variety of emergency preparedness drills. such as shelter-in-place, lockdown, and evacuations. On Friday, February 23, we walked to our designated off campus evacuation area.
