Open House for Grades 1 to 5

Open House occurs on two evenings. For students in grades 3 to 5, Open House takes place on Tuesday, August 15 from 6 to 7 PM. For students in grades 1 and 2, Open House will occur on Thursday, August 17 from 6 to 7 PM. Please join us in the cafeteria for a brief presentation at 6 PM.

Introducing Principal Troy Tamura

We are pleased to announce Mr. Troy Tamura as our new Mililani Waena principal. Principal Tamura, a fellow Mililani resident, is a seasoned administrator with over twenty of years experience. He previously held principalships at Major Sheldon Wheeler Elementary School and Wahiawa Elementary School. We are excited to continue our learning journey with him and look forward to a wonderful new school year.

A+ After-School Program Rate Increase

The A+ After-School Program rate has increased to $110 per month. The program starts immediately after the close of the school day at the Mililani Waena. After free play/snack, children participate in enrichment, physical development/coordination activities and are given time to complete homework. Register your child for A+ by picking up an registration from at the office.

Hawaii State National History Day Competition Results

On Saturday, April 15, eight students from Mililani Waena Elementary competed in the Hawaii State National History Day Fair held at Windward Community College. Mililani Waena swept the top three places in the Performance category. In first place was Quincy Coullahan and Mikayla Kuahiwinui, in second place was Sariah Banks and Angelina Park, and in third place Hayden Rice. In addition, Quincy and Mikayla received two special awards for "Excellence in use of Primary Resources." Also, competing were Camryn Kunihisa and Ashley Ross in the Website category and Kanoelani Ong in the Essay category. Special thanks for Mrs. Diegel and Mr. Iwamura for advising our students. Everyone represented Mililani Waena very well!

Accreditation Update

All Hawaii public schools are required to be accredited from the Western Association Schools & Colleges (WASC). Mililani Waena is currently conducting a self-study to analyze the quality of its curricular experiences for students. In the Fall of 2017, we will host information sessions with parents and community members to gather more feedback on our school curriculum and programs. In the spring of 2018, a team of educators representing WASC will conduct a site visit. At the conclusion of the site visit, the WASC visiting team will make school wide recommendations which includes an accreditation status.
