Principal Castro Accepts New Position

Principal Dale Castro has accepted a position as the District School Renewal Specialist to begin in June. Ms. Catherine Upton, Teacher of the Year!

We would like to congratulate Ms. Catherine Upton as Mililani Waena's Teacher of the Year. Ms. Upton received this award at the Hawaii State Teacher's Association Central District Luncheon on Saturday, May 13. Ms. Upton is Mililani Waena's Technology Innovation Specialist.

Junior Police Officer Field Day

Our Junior Police Officers (JPOs) participated in the annual Honolulu Police Department Competition and Field Day at Central Oahu Regional Park. The JPOs were awarded a 100 / 100 during the drill competition. Congratulations to our students for doing an excellent job! In addition, fifth grader Ashlee Acob was recognized as Mililani Waena's JPO of the Year! Well done, Ashley! Lastly, a big mahalo to Mr. Mitani for advising our JPOs.

Military Appreciation Purple Up!

On Friday, April 21st, our school wore purple to show appreciation to students whose parents are enlisted in the military. Purple is the color of all the military branches combined. We appreciate the sacrifices our military families make to serve our country.

Hawaii State National History Day Competition Results

On Saturday, April 15, eight students from Mililani Waena Elementary competed in the Hawaii State National History Day Fair held at Windward Community College. Mililani Waena swept the top three places in the Performance category. In first place was Quincy Coullahan and Mikayla Kuahiwinui, in second place was Sariah Banks and Angelina Park, and in third place Hayden Rice. In addition, Quincy and Mikayla received two special awards for "Excellence in use of Primary Resources." Also, competing were Camryn Kunihisa and Ashley Ross in the Website category and Kanoelani Ong in the Essay category. Special thanks for Mrs. Diegel and Mr. Iwamura for advising our students. Everyone represented Mililani Waena very well!

Accreditation Update

All Hawaii public schools are required to be accredited from the Western Association Schools & Colleges (WASC). Mililani Waena is currently conducting a self-study to analyze the quality of its curricular experiences for students. In the Fall of 2017, we will host information sessions with parents and community members to gather more feedback on our school curriculum and programs. In the spring of 2018, a team of educators representing WASC will conduct a site visit. At the conclusion of the site visit, the WASC visiting team will make school wide recommendations which includes an accreditation status.

Kindergarten Registration Begins February 1

Aloha! Our kindergarten registration begins on February 1st. Children who are 5 years age by July 31st may be registered. Please see the attachment for required registration documents by clicking on this announcement header. In addition, we offer "Ready...Set...K!!!", a kindergarten summer readiness program from July 17- 21. Program info will be shared when you register at the office. Cost is $5. We look forward to welcoming your child to our Mililani Waena ohana!
