Last Week of School

There will be no homework for the last week of school! Please remember that Monday, May 27 is a holiday: there is no school. Also, Wednesday will be out a 2:05 so that Friday can be let out early at 1:00. I will be sending home almost all of your students books and supplies on Thursday, May 30th, so please make sure they bring a backpack, perhaps even an extra bag. Thank you for a great year!

Field Trip

Dear parents,

We have a field trip on Monday to the wetlands. Please bring a home lunch, as we will be getting back after the cafeteria is closed. We will be eating in the classroom, so you can put it in a lunchbox, or disposable container. Please also bring a snack and water bottle to bring to the wetlands, as we will be having a late lunch. We will eat the snack at the wetlands, so please make sure it is disposable. Have students wear clothes that can get dirty and close-toed shoes as it could be slightly muddy.

In other news, the evacuation drill went smoothly! Students now know what to expect if we need to leave the school campus.

Thank you,
Mrs. Rich

Report Cards

Report cards are going home today. Pease sign and return the envelopes. Also, if you have any questions or comments, please fill out the last page and return it inside of the envelope.

Thank you and have a good weekend!

Rescheduling

Due to the government shutdown, our field trip will now be February 25th. There will be a new form coming home next week. Also, due to technological difficulties, the math SBA is now scheduled for January 28th. Please remember that Monday, January 21, there is no school. Enjoy your weekend!

STEM

After two weeks with lots of testing, the class earned a morning of STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) challenges. They were given a box of materials, and ideas of things to build. They were given no instructions other than that. This challenge was a fun way to end the week! There is a photo album with some pictures if you would like to see.

Bird Beak Project

Last week the students worked really hard on their SBA reading tests. In the afternoons they were able to have fun creating and testing their bird beak projects. I have uploaded pictures so that you can see how it went!

SBA

Dear parents,

Next week third grade will be taking the Interim Reading SBA. This is the first round of the standardized test for Hawaii, the Smarter Balanced Assessment. Monday we will be getting familiar with the testing tools and format since it will be on the computer. Tuesday through Friday we will be testing in the mornings. Please make sure your students get enough sleep and arrive at school on time. We will be taking the Math Interim in January, and the second round of the SBA toward the end of the school year.

Thank you!

Next Week

Dear parents,

Next week will be a little different due to the Fun Fair. We won't have school on Monday. Because of Fun Fair, Wednesday's and Friday's schedules are switching. This means that release on Wednesday is 2:05. Release on Friday is 1:00. The following week will return to normal. Fun Fair is on Friday from 4:30-7:30. Scrips for food and games cost $1 each. You can purchase these any time through the office this week and next. You may also buy them at the fair on Friday. We hope to see you there!

Halloween

Our class had a great time celebrating Halloween. Be sure to check out the photos!

Parent Teacher Conferences

Dear parents,

Please remember that starting Monday and lasting through Friday, November 2nd, school will be letting out at 1:00 every day to make time for parent teacher conferences. I will be sending home reminders with your students one day before your scheduled conference. If for some reason you need to reschedule, please email me or call the front office.

For parents waiting for a conference, I will be putting chairs across from P-7, next to the D building, that way you are not waiting in the direct afternoon sun. I will come get you at the scheduled time.

Thank you for your cooperation, and I look forward to seeing you all!

Timed Multiplication Tests

Dear parents,

Next week we will be starting timed multiplication tests. So far we have learned strategies for 10s facts, 5s facts, and are starting 2s facts. As we learn each set we will be taking a timed test. This is in order to gain fluency and speed with multiplication. The students are learning strategies for each set of facts, but they should also be able to be quick. At the end of the year, every student who is able to pass all of these tests (fact pages 1-12) will be able to participate in a grade-level ice cream party. I will be adding the dates of these tests on the planner for homework.

Thank you,
Erin Rich

Upcoming Dates

Don't forget, Friday September 7th is our field trip. Please have your students bring a disposable lunch, wear school colors, and wear covered shoes. It should be a great day!

September 13th will be our class's picture day. Have your students wear something you want them to be photographed in.

Have a great weekend!

Grades

Dear parents,

Earlier this week I sent home a sheet with your student's grades. This is a way to keep you informed of how your student is doing. I am happy to also make copies of any test you would like to see. Just mark it down on the sheet. I will be sending these home the first day of every week. It might take a few days for me to return the tests you want to see, but I will do my best to be prompt. Have a great weekend!
